Doctors

In addition to their roles as family practitioners the doctors maintain expertise by having appointments in clinical governance (raising the quality and standards in the NHS), appraisal of other GPs, emergency care, the Health Protection Agency and medical teaching.

    MB ChB (hons) MRCGP DCH DFFP First registered 1990 (Birmingham)

    I qualified from Birmingham medical school in 1990 then trained and worked as a GP in the West Midlands before moving to Eaglescliffe Medical Practice in 2002. I am a GP trainer- I supervise doctors through their training to become GPs and I also teach medical students. Practice Lead for Human Resources and GP Training.

    Dr Fiona Smith has been working at the practice for 15 years. As well as teaching medical students Dr Smith has a special interest in young people's health. Practice Lead for Young People's Health, Human Resources and GP Training.

    Dr Stephen Salvati started working at the practice in 2016 and is involved in the training of GP registrars. Practice Lead for GP Training and Social Media.

  • DR ELAINE KIRK

    BSc MBChB MRCGP DRCOG DFFP DCH First registered 1995 (Edinburgh)

    I qualified from Edinburgh University in 1995 and worked in Edinburgh until completing GP training in 2000. I then practiced in Langholm and Hawick in the south of Scotland before moving to the North East in 2015 for family reasons. I have an interest in woman and children's health and am part of the UK emergency medical team.

    I have joined Eaglescliffe Medical Practice from serving 11 years in the Army. Specialist interests include Medical Education, Veterans' Health and Computer Systems.

Nurse Practitioners

Nurses

Our nurses specialise in health promotion. They are available for smear testing, smoking cessation, immunisation and travel advice. They assist in the monitoring of some ongoing conditions and can offer advice in such matters as contraception.

Healthcare Assistants

Our Health Care Assistant provides well person checks and helps in the monitoring of certain conditions. She performs tests such as electrocardiography, lung function tests and assists in the provision of minor operations and phlebotomy. If you have registered with us in the last 6 months, are over 75 and have not seen a health professional in the last year, or are registered with us but have not attended in the last 3 years, you are welcome to make an appointment with her for a check up.

Phlebotomists

Our Phlebotomists in the practice can offer morning clinics on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.Transportation arrangements of blood samples to the laboratory generally preclude the availability of a phlebotomy service on an afternoon.

Practice Management

The management team is responsible for the financial and organisational aspects of the Practice. They support the whole team in delivering excellent GP services.

Care Co-Ordinator

Our care Co-Ordinator is available twice a week at the Practice and works within the community. This role can help with services and activities to keep you healthy and safe at home. Please contact reception for more information or a referral into this service.

Community Midwives

Our team of attached midwives have good knowledge of the community and facilities available locally. As well as providing personalised pregnancy care, they offer post natal care for you and your baby for up to 28 days after delivery. Parentcraft classes are available. Appointments with the midwife are via initial referral from your doctor.

Community Nurses

Our team of attached district nurses specialise in dressings, postoperative care including the removal of stitches and the care of the infirm. Home visits can be arranged if needed.

Health Visitors

Our attached health visitors advise on all family matters but specialise in the under 5’s offering developmental checks and immunisation advice. No appointment is needed for the Well Baby Clinic every Friday 10am - 11:30 am.

Counsellors

We have attached counsellors who are available two days a week. Appointments are via initial referral from a doctor.

Attached Staff

We have a visiting Physiotherapist, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Alcohol Worker and Macmillan Nurse. Consultations are via initial referral from the doctor. Services from a Chiropodist are also available.
